El precio del amor – el médico que tiene a Sudáfrica hablando sobre el abuso financiero.

“A young female South African doctor has initiated a nationwide dialogue on a type of domestic abuse that is often kept hidden – financial abuse. Dr. Celiwe Ndaba shared her personal story in viral videos, discussing how she was financially exploited by her husband, leading to their separation. Despite her successful career, Dr. Ndaba found herself trapped in a toxic marriage, feeling pressured to fund her husband’s extravagant lifestyle, including his desire for a Mercedes Benz. This decision caused financial strain on their family, prompting Dr. Ndaba to speak out and share her experience with the public. Her estranged husband, Temitope Dada, has not responded to requests for comment.

In response to the social media attention, Mr. Dada created a TikTok account to defend himself, denying the accusations made by Dr. Ndaba. However, the comments section on Dr. Ndaba’s social media platforms has become a space for support and solidarity, with other women sharing similar experiences of financial abuse.

According to lawyer Bertus Preller, South African women who achieve financial independence still face challenges due to cultural norms that prioritize male authority. Financial abuse, which aims to control the victim, is a subtle yet powerful form of domestic violence. In South Africa, this is legally classified as economic abuse under the Domestic Violence Act.

Stories of financial exploitation and manipulation have emerged, highlighting the deep psychological impact of financial abuse on both the abuser and the victim. Research suggests that women who out-earn their partners are at a higher risk of experiencing intimate partner violence, reflecting the complex dynamics of power and control in relationships.” Cuando estas chocan, las ideologías dañinas escalan.
